The Roundhouse in Camden, North London, is more used to staging cutting edge performance art; however, on 13th February it proved an excellent venue to stage BAMMA 2. In only its second show, the organisation put on an enthralling 9-fight card, with high production values and two world titles at stake.

In the main event, the experienced and deeply capable, Paul Reed squared off with young German stand out, Alan Omer for the vacant BAMMA Featherweight title.

Reed started well, keeping the fight on the floor in both the first and second rounds, throwing hard, accurate punches from a variety of positions. However, in the third, the tide turned as Omer was able to spring back to his feet and smash into Reed’s chest with a series of hurtful knees.

The Bristol fighter was able to take Omer to the floor once again in the fourth, but he was not the attacking force that he was earlier in the contest and the German began working his dangerous guard. Flipping his right leg around Reed’s neck, Omer quickly sank the triangle choke, claiming the BAMMA Featherweight title in the process.

Highly-touted BJJ prodigy, Gunnar Nelson advanced to a career record of 6-0 as he quickly submitted the over-matched newcomer, Sam Eldson, with a  rear naked choke. Nelson began by exhibiting a bizarre karate stance, before tearing in for the take down. Once the fight hit the floor it was one-way traffic as Nelson literally suffocated his opponent with his high-pressure top game.

After a strategic slow start, Rob Sinclair blasted through Nathan Beer, bashing him with punches to claim the BAMMA Lightweight title. As Beer chopped away with kicks, Sinclair picked his moment and caught his opponent’s leg, sending him off balance.

Beer lurched across the cage, prompting his Manchunian opponent to chase in with a huge right hand, following on the floor with a flood of vicious punches, leaving the referee no choice but to stop the contest 3.33 into the first round.

Rangy middleweight, Mike Ling made a very impressive debut as he came through some unbelievably spiteful volleys of abuse from the game, Rus Smith to land a first round submission win. As he broke free of a triangle attempt, Smith looked capable of causing damage, but Ling soon regained control and finished with a rear naked choke.

Tsunami gym representative, AJ Wenn and bleach blond wrestler, Ali McClean went to war for three rounds in a tremendous welterweight match up. Wenn looked the sharper and more technical striker, but McClean fought aggressively and landed numerous single leg takedowns across the bout.

Wenn threatened off his back with a beautiful armbar-to-triangle transition and McClean, in turn, tried his very best to punch the grappler’s lights out. At the end of three close rounds, the judges returned a well justified split draw.

South coast fighter, Billy Harris dominated Irishman, Steve ‘Taz’ McCombe in their flyweight contest to claim a unanimous decision win. Taz started brightly with a slick armbar attempt, however, Harris swarmed all over his shaven-headed opponent, controlling him from rear mount and picking him off in the stand up exchanges.

Irish hardman, Peter Duncan upset the odds as he ruthlessly hammered out a decision win over BJJ black belt, Alexandre Izidro. The Brazilian showed flashes of genius in the first as he took Duncan down with ease and clamped on a brutal toehold from sidemount.

However, Duncan worked his way out and – egged on by an enthusiastic corner – proceeded to batter Izidro into the floor for the best part of two rounds. The submission master rallied with punches in the closing moments, but Duncan’s brutal and sustained ground-and-pound assault was more than enough to claim an excellent unanimous decision win.

Stuart Rickman put on a very workmanlike performance as he dispatched Nathan Champ by submission in the first round. Rickman drove his foe straight into the mat with a fantastic judo throw, before punching his way to rear mount where he swiftly applied the choke.

In the opening fight of the night, 19-year old, Panayiotis Tsimonos showed some neat skill as he threatened opponent Charlie Leary with an armbar and tight guillotine attempt. However, Leary survived and smashed his way to victory with punches on the mat in the second round.

You better watch it Gareth, my toe is healing so I'll be forced to knock you out if you come out with more sexiest crap. And leave Steven alone, he can get himself into trouble (he always does anyway :P)

Who said you couldn't fight with a broken foot? Managment? I've done it before & so has Lee for his last fight. Unless it was a bad break?

My coaches, I was for fighting but they seen the x-rays and it was a clean break and the hospital had warned me that I could end up needing it pinned if I fought. Buts its healing now, and I'm fighting onthe 29th May :)

Man with genitals in pipe

A man who went to casualty with his penis stuck in a steel pipe had to be cut free by firefighters using a metal grinder.
Medics at Southampton General Hospital could not get the man's penis out of the stainless steel pipe because the restricted blood flow had caused it to become aroused, so they called in Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.
They turned up with a special equipment unit from St Mary's station in Southampton and seven firefighters to help in what a spokesman said was a "delicate operation". The firefighters used the four-and-a-half-inch grinder to cut the pipe from around the man's penis and it took about 30 minutes. The patient was given an anaesthetic and his penis was left bruised and swollen but otherwise unharmed. The anxious man, aged about 40, gave hospital staff no explanation about how the pipe got stuck after he turned up on Tuesday morning. A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Initially the crew did not have the appropriate cutting equipment to free the man. "It was a very delicate operation that required a very steady hand and the crew was worried about things getting too hot during the cutting. "It's certainly an unusual call-out and I'm sure the man won't be getting into that situation again."

Really...seriously?
